BodyPump, HIIT, cycle & yoga: Why we love group fitness

When was the last time you attended a group fitness class? If you have to think about it, then it’s obviously been too long. It goes without saying (but we’ll say it anyway) that we love group fitness (and wellness!) classes for several reasons, including:

  • More accountability
  • Assured sweatiness
  • Good music
  • Great instructors
  • No need to think of what to do in the gym
  • Catch up with our gym pals

And the list goes on (and on). So if it’s been a hot minute since you booked into a class, now is the time to kickstart your routine. We have rounded up a few of our fav group classes to inspire you, enjoy!

Body Pump & strength classes

Les Mills’ BodyPump is an invigorating barbell workout that uses light to moderate weights with lots of repetition to give you a total body workout. Your BodyPump Instructor will coach you through a series of strength-based moves and techniques, encouraging and motivating you to improve your strength while burning energy.

Selecting the perfect BodyPump weight for a Les Mills’ BodyPump class can seem like an epic task – but when you know the formula, it’s really quite simple.

FIIT30  – HIIT workouts for women

Exclusive to Fernwood, our premium FIIT30 sessions are built around high intensity interval training (HIIT), and will help you to get fitter, leaner and stronger, faster, as you burn fat, build strength and tone muscles through a range of hand-selected workouts that work all the major muscle groups. These sessions have a limited capacity to ensure a small group training environment, led by a personal trainer.

Reformer Pilates

Our Reformer Pilates trainers will guide you through a range of movements designed to make you stretch, sweat and strengthen your body and mind. We have state-of-the-art reformer beds, skilled and experienced trainers, and props to support your practice.

Cycle classes

Feel that buuuurrrnn. Jump off the treadmill and try a cycle class for a truly magical cardiovascular workout designed to push you to your peak fitness. Pedal through a challenging mix of intervals, hill climbs and sprints for a great cardiovascular workout that works your entire body.

You can scale the intensity up or down depending on your fitness level – chat to the instructor before class for advice 😊.

Yoga

Whoever said yoga is ‘easy’ has clearly never been to a yoga class. Yes, it is low impact and we tend to move slower in yoga, but any type of flowing, vinyasa or hatha yoga class will have you holding planks, inverted planks (i.e., downward facing dog and dolphin), and lunging til your heart’s content.

If the slower pace is the vibe you are chasing, yin yoga is ideal. Stretch, unwind and physically ‘let go’ in our popular restorative yin yoga practice. Relaxing deeply and intently into lengthy held stretches, yin yoga is the perfect balance to more intensive practices.

Zumba

Move your body with the music and have an absolute ball with your friends in a Zumba class. Zumba is a Latin-inspired group dance class, mixing both low and high intensity moves for an interval-style calorie-burning fitness session. With easy to master dance moves and chart-topping hits, Zumba will give you a total body workout, combining all the elements of fitness that you love including cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility.
