6 common cycle class mistakes

Cycle is a challenging, yet rewarding class. Whether you’re a regular attendee or a newbie to the workout, there are a few common mistakes you may be making that can affect your form and overall workout.

You arrived just in time for class
Limiting your set up time can leave you feeling frazzled and unprepared. Try to arrive at least 5-10 minutes early so you can find a spot, grab any gear you may need, and get comfy.

Not following the instructor’s directions
Your instructor is specially trained to guide you through your class. Let the trainer take the wheel (excuse the pun!) and follow their instructions. You’ll benefit from a good and proper workout, plus the community riding beside you can boost you up and support your ride.

Wearing the wrong workout clothes
Your bike is an amazing piece of equipment, but be wary of baggy clothing. Choose form-fitting leggings and pants to prevent anything getting caught or stuck. Cycle is a super sweaty workout, so baggy clothing can become hot and bothersome. A sports bra that fits well is also a must to keep you comfortable while riding.

Swaying around or swinging side-to-side
We love pumping playlist full of good tunes too, but keep in mind swaying or swinging around can ruin your balance. Instead, try pedalling to the beat if you really can’t resist dancing.

Holding your breath
When we’re working hard, a lot of the time we unconsciously hold our breath. Keep tabs on your breath, and if you notice you’re holding it, work hard to get out of that habit – it’ll make your ride much easier.

Gripping the handlebars too tightly
If you’re relying on your handlebars to support you and your weight, then your quads and core aren’t getting the workout they deserve. In moments when you feel you need the support, try flexing your fingers or fluttering them as you ride to ensure you’re not relying on those handlebars.
