How did you feel when you realised you were a runner-up?
I was over the moon. I couldn’t believe that all of that hard work had paid off and that I actually achieved my goal weight.
What was your health and fitness like before you started the 12 Week Challenge?
My health was pretty bad because I’m a smoker, so during the 12 Week Challenge I tried not smoking as much, and it sure did give me more strength and it made me feel a lot fitter.
When and why did you decide to take part in the challenge?
When I started going to Fernwood last year, I was working out by myself and I had only lost one kilogram. I knew I needed to do something more about my health and fitness, so when the 12 Week Challenge came along, I decided to give it a go.
What has been the most rewarding part of your journey?
Getting back to the weight that I was before having children has been the most rewarding. I feel better and I have more energy.
Where did you turn for support?
I turned to my partner, Glen; my group leader, Sarah; my PT and also my food coach. My kids helped me a lot, too. Every morning they’d ask me: “Mum, are we going to the gym today?”
What do you believe was the key to your success?
Last year I saw my sister lose a lot of weight by training at Fernwood, and now she’s in the navy, so it made me want to show her that I wasn’t going to give up.
What did you learn about yourself throughout the 12 weeks?
My self-confidence has really gone up and I’m never going to give up on anything.
What are your plans for staying on track in the future?
I’m going to keep my nutrition on track. My family and I are still eating the meals from Fernwood’s online programs, and that will never change. I’m also going to do PT and food coaching once a week.
