How Melinda found her motivation at Fernwood Yarraville

Before I joined Fernwood I found it hard to get motivated, eat the right food and go to the gym – my exercise was a morning walk with the dog. But my clothes didn’t fit me anymore, so I went to Fernwood, loved it, and joined in July, 2015.

Since then, all of my old clothes are starting to fit, and I have more energy and confidence. I could never run and I just completed the five-kilometre Sussan Women’s Fun Run … so I was very pleased! I also did Summer Sculpt which was a fun challenge; I met some lovely ladies and it made me think about the right types of food and portions for my body.

The hardest part of my journey is being organised, having healthy food prepared and choosing what to eat when I go out. I’ve also tried not to drink alcohol and eat less chocolate.

All of the great personal trainers at Fernwood Yarraville are so helpful and encourage you to do your best, and my personal trainer has helped a lot with motivation and advice. Also, my best friend and I share our weekly goals and weight [loss].

My plan for staying on track in the future is to keep up the PT sessions. That way, I know that I am getting support, I can talk about exercise and diet, keep organised and focus on having a healthier lifestyle.

The advice I’d give to other women is to have the confidence to have a go at any challenge! Book in those PT sessions, set reachable goals, don’t feel guilty when you go off track, be organised with food and make sure you have lots of support around you
