On joining the challenge...

I was at a point where I was struggling to motivate myself. I had gained a bit of weight and I was feeling really flat. I went into the challenge hoping that I could stick to the whole 12 weeks; many times I had woken up on a Monday morning and told myself that was the week that I would start living healthier, only to falter a couple of days in. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it and hoped that in the process I would see results.

On friendship and support...

The camaraderie that developed between the ladies doing the challenge was a highlight. I made some amazing friends and I went from being someone who didn’t know anybody at my club to always having someone to chat to when I go now. Having the support of the people around me was crucial – within the gym from my personal trainer, my food coach and the other challenge ladies, and at home from my boyfriend, family and close friends always giving me positive reinforcement and keeping me on track.

On the ongoing impact of the challenge...

My confidence has improved dramatically. When I started the challenge I really didn’t feel comfortable in myself and I didn’t like who I saw in the mirror. I felt like I was much older than I was and didn’t enjoy going out because I always felt anxious about how I looked. Now I enjoy going shopping, getting dressed up and I certainly feel less anxious in social situations. I am so much happier now and it carries to every aspect of my life.

Kate's top tip for success

”Be organised! Plan your meals at the beginning of the week and stick to your plan. If you go out for dinner, try to look at the menu online first and decide what you’ll have before you arrive. Commit to your workouts, write them down in your diary and treat them like appointments that you can’t miss.”
