Train for a Half Ironman in just 10 weeks Train for a Half Ironman in just 10 weeks

A race consisting of a 1.9 km swim, a 90 km bike ride, and a 21.1 km run. Each leg completed one after the other – no rest, no recovery time.

The distances clocked during a Half Ironman are more than intimidating. But according to Sean Foster, head triathlon coach at Fluid Movements and a trainer at Melbourne Tri Club, all it takes are 10 weeks to get ready for your first ultra-endurance race.

“It may sound like an enormous task, but the truth is if you remain consistent with your training it is a very achievable one,” says Foster.

Given our Fernwood community’s thirst for a challenge, we teamed up with Foster to write a 10-week training program that will prepare you for your first Half Ironman. Most training sessions can be completed at your local club.
