It's almost Easter! If you're looking for a healthy sweet recipe, try out these healthier hot cross buns that are easy to make and taste delicious. Topped with chocolate, they are sure to be a winner.



  • 3 cups wholemeal flour
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • Pinch of salt
  • Dash of cinnamon and nutmeg
  • 8 Medjool dates
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • 50g dark chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • Extra chocolate to decorate


  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, rolled oats, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg, dates, egg, coconut oil, chocolate and honey.
  3. Gradually add almond milk and mix until a sticky dough forms.
  4. Sprinkle flour on a chopping board, and knead dough until soft and fluffy.
  5. Roll the dough into balls and place in a baking dish. Bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown, then decorate with melted chocolate.
