One Planet Challenge
In the lead up to the Olympics, Fernwood introduced the national ‘One Planet Challenge’ which was free to all its members, encouraging them to exercise their way around the world - over 35,000km, seven continents and 1000s of countries.
The aim of the program was to help people achieve their fitness goals every week by rewarding them with kilometres for each activity they did in the club. For example a group fitness class allowed them to travel 600km, while a personal training session clocked up 700km in their passport.
Over 6300 participants took on the challenge around the country. The top four clubs that had the greatest number of participants were Mitcham, Campbelltown, Chirnside Park and Ballarat.
Over 200 ladies take part in the One Planet Challenge at Fernwood Chirnside Park
The ladies at Fernwood Chirnside Park had such a wonderful time participating in the One Planet Challenge.
There was always an amazing buzz of excited people around our world map which we had posted on the wall in our club. We constantly had members wanting to check their progress and have their passports stamped. They especially enjoyed collecting their prizes once they reached each destination.
We used different prizes for each destination point. For example Vegemite was awarded for Australia, Columbian Coffee for South America , Fortune Cookies for China and African Bracelets for Africa - just to name a few.
Our members were even conducting challenges amongst their own friends to see who could travel the longest distance. We also had members who hadn’t been into the Club for months coming in up to 3 or 4 times a week!!
This was a really fun and motivating challenge and our members really embraced it. They can’t wait for the next challenge.
