Seasonal Eating Tips: Weddings, Parties, Christmas, Anything...

Follow these top tips from Fernwood Women’s Health Club to combat excess weight gain, keep you feeling healthy and looking great all year round:

  • Don’t expect you will lose weight during festive seasons. Parties and celebrations can make slimming near impossible, so don’t set yourself up for failure. Instead, aim to keep your weight stable and get back into healthy eating in the New Year.
  • Keep really indulgent days to a minimum. Be lenient on yourself on Christmas day, your birthday and very special occasions. A four week feeding frenzy can take its toll on the waistline, so give yourself a break from time to time.
  • Don’t arrive hungry. Have a small (and healthy) snack before you go to parties to reduce the chance of indulging when you get there.
  • Adopt a pastry-free policy. By simply avoiding one of the most kilojoule laden party foods, you’ll be ahead of the game.
  • Try low(er) fat snacks like pretzels, rice crackers, fruit platters and fat-free biscuits. Dip into a mix of ricotta cheese and sweet chilli sauce – a great low-fat dip!
  • Limit alcohol to particular times, say, after 6pm as a general rule and alternate between alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. One small glass of wine, one large glass of water.
